Are you ready to run your first Instagram giveaway contest? Looking to have a successful Instagram giveaway? Here are the steps to make that happen!
Hey ya’ll I’m Kori Ashton and on today’s Monday Marketing Minute I’m going to be teaching you how to run a successful giveaway or contest inside of your Instagram channel.
Define Your Goals for Instagram Campaign
So first thing is absolutely first you need to be sure to define the goal in your successful campaign. So:
- What is your purpose for running this?
- Do you want to grow your followers?
- Do you want to grow your email list?
- Do you want to just send people over to your website?
- Do you want to sell a product?
- What are you trying to accomplish?
And once you have that goal kind of insight, then you can determine all the rest of the steps.
But right now, for this example let’s use the fact that we want to grow our followers inside of Instagram. So now that you kind of have that in your mind of what you see successful out of this campaign you can then decide on what you’d like to actually giveaway. And you want to be sure that it connects with your brand, maybe it’s one of your products or one of your books. Or something to do specifically correlated to your brand. What you don’t want to do is just giveaway a random iPad just to try to boost traffic.
Defining your contest rules and conditions is a lot easier on Instagram than it is on Facebook. But, Instagram does ask you to put in this little disclaimer that needs to be inside of your post, so that everybody understands kind of the fine print of you running this contest on Instagram. I’ll put a link to that in the description box below so you can just copy and paste it into your post.
But you want to think about giving very simple instructions on how people can enter your contest or your giveaway. You want them to run through maybe three at the most four different steps that you’re asking them to do in order to be entered into a drawing to win the prize.
Three Conditions To Enter The Intagram Drawing
So, something like this, the example I gave earlier of wanting to increase my followers the first step, of course, is to like my page follow me on Instagram. So you want to add that in there and have them follow your page as condition number one.
Condition number two, comment on this post, and number three in that comment tag three friends that might love my product, right?
In asking them to do those three simple things then they become eligible to enter into the drawing, the last thing you want to do on this particular step is to define the timeline.
So, are you running this contest for 24 hours, are you running it for three days? At most we suggest a seven day time period. You want to create kind of a sense of urgency. Once you’ve reached the deadline of your competition you should have all of the people who are now ready to be seen as entries for your drawing or your giveaway.
So you want to go through and just verify that every single person has followed through all the steps. One you’ve verified those, they have now become a valid entry for the drawing. Then you can use something like a random picker, I’ll put a link to one– this one’s called Random Picker. I’ll put a link to it in the description box below so you can come here. You can just enter all the names and click “pick a random item” and it will actually pick the person’s name right there and that can be your winner. Unless you have some other means of doing this inside of your own CRM or database that you’re using. But you want to pick a winner randomly and then you want to announce them.
Everybody’s going to be coming back to your social networks to see who’s the winner. So you can make a really cool post like this, send it out and really celebrate the person that won. Tag them in it, notify them to connect with you so you can get their address or whatever it might be so that you can send them their gift card or whatever the prize was.
Hey, so don’t be frustrated if the first time you try a giveaway you don’t have as many entries as you’d like. Sometimes that can happen, but as you start to grow a rhythm with these you do three, four, five different giveaways, you’ll start to see your audience catch on to how you’re doing them and you’ll start to see that engagement grow.
